Howdy! 🤠 Things have been going well over on Muddy Boots. I have been a busy bee working away on several features and most importantly the animals. Here is an indepth look at the animals on Muddy Boots. I also included an introduction on Real Estate. 🏡
The animals on Muddy Boots have different traits that are relative to each particular breed of each species. Each animal has a Personality, Coat Type, Feather Type (only associated with chickens), Color and Stats (Agility, Obedience, Intelligence). Traits can be passed down to the offspring by breeding. On Muddy Boots each species has a specific gestation period using actual real-life days. This means that once an animal is bred the litter and offspring won't be born until the gestation period is over. Gestation is somewhat based on realism. Larger animals have longer gestation periods than smaller animals.
Gestation Periods on Muddy Boots:
Chickens: 1 day
Rabbits: 2 days
Dogs: 3 days
Sheep: 4 days
Horses: 5 days
Cows: 6 days
(The Gestation Periods may be tweaked)
Each species can only have a certain number of offspring per breeding. Just as in real life a Cow won't have 7 offspring, but a dog could possibly have that many. On Muddy Boots Cows, Sheep and Horses can only have one offspring per breeding, with a rare chance for two offspring.
The animals are a very important part of Shepherd Hills and the human and animal bond is an integral part of the game. When a player purchases an animal from Misty Meadow Farms (the foundation shop/pet store), the player must care for the animal in order to create a bond with it. Each day of care allows the bond level to grow. When the bond reaches the maximum bond level the animal will receive a bonus in any competition it is entered in. If a day of care is missed or skipped the bond goes down a level. If the animal is not cared for over a span of days the bond level decreases more and more. When the animal is cared for the bond level grows once more. If an animal is sold to another player, the bond level resets and the new player must care for the animal each day to earn a new bond with the animal.
On Muddy Boots a player starts with a just single barn on one acre of land. The barn can allow the player to own and house their animals. If a player chooses to breed their animals they must visit the Real Estate Agency to purchase additional acreage and buildings.
The Nursery is a building that allows the player to breed their animals, place animals for stud and search for other male animals that are listed for stud service. Also in the Nursery are three sections for litters. They are Upcoming Litters, Current Litters and Weaned Litters.
Players can also purchase a Pasture, Shop, Bakery, and Garden. With potential for more buildings and acreage.
